Travel and Leisure: Top 4 Australian Locations for a Family Holiday

There are many great places in Australia to have a seaside holiday adventure with the whole family without it costing you the earth.

It can be difficult to choose a great family-friendly holiday destination, especially when you want somewhere that is both affordable and fun for the kids. For your next beach escape holiday, try out one of the following options that are sure to be fun for the whole family and a great deal too!

Wollongong
Sydney's sister city to the south is an often overlooked family holiday paradise, that many Australians forget about when making their vacation plans. There are many great reasons to go to Wollongong for a holiday, starting with the reasonably priced accommodation options. You can take the kids for a horse ride, go "flying" above the treetops with the popular Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk, or check out the Symbio Wildlife Park where your kids can get up close and personal with koalas, kangaroos and snakes. Of course, you can also spend some much-needed time just relaxing on one of the many beautiful beaches the area has to offer.

The Gold Coast
Often when people think of the Gold Coast, they think mainly of the luxury high-rise condos and the major party spots for the rich and famous, but few think about how great it can be for family holidays. The Gold Coast is actually a real winner when it comes to having activities for the kids, especially with the easy access to lots of great beaches and parks where the kids can play all day long. The Gold Coast is also home to the best theme parks in all of Australia: Sea World, Dreamworld, Whitewater World, Movie World and the Wet’n’Wild Water Park. Save a little money and get a family pass to your favourite ones so that you and your family can enjoy the theme parks again and again.

Port Campbell
Along the Great Ocean Road, a couple of hundred kilometres from Melbourne is the quiet and peaceful town of Port Campbell. This town is popular mainly because of it's close proximity to some of the Great Ocean Road's most famous coastal attractions like the 12 Apostles, but is also a great escape in its own right if you are looking for a low-key family holiday. Port Campbell accommodation generally consists of quaint bed and breakfasts, lodges, hotels, and the affordable and fun caravan park that the kids will love. There are also plenty of opportunities for fishing, snorkelling, sightseeing as well as a great swimming spot that is safe for kids.

Caloundra
The variety of attractions and activities for kids of all ages is what makes Caloundra one of Queensland's most popular family holiday destinations. The string of beaches that makes up the Sunshine Coast have a much more relaxed vibe than those of the Gold Coast, and you may even catch a fun event at Kings Park Beach. Nearby is the amazing Australia Zoo, which is a must-do activity for both the kids and the adults in your group, as well as Aussie World Family Fun Park, Underwater World and the Big Kart Track. The kids will absolutely love it on the Sunshine Coast, and, chances are, parents will too!
