A Bit of the Tropics: Pillows!

Photographer: Jean Allsopp ~ Coastal Living
We LOVE pillows - different shapes, sizes, fabrics! They are one of the most reasonably priced ways to change the look and feel of a couch, chair, rocker or entire room. Pillows can add a bit of fun, boldness or splash of color to an otherwise bland room. If you're afraid of putting color on your walls then put some on your favorite chair...there's nothing like snuggling up with a soft and comfy pillow while reading a great book.

Popular in America since the 1940s, bark cloth fabric is distinguished by tropical motifs and colors.

How to get the look:

If you're looking to add a Bit of the Tropics to your home's decor then look at incorporating teal blues, mango greens, fiery oranges or your favorite vibrant color. Vintage bark cloth, batiks and Hawaiian floral fabrics are sure to transform your bit of paradise into a Tropical haven.

Coastal partner, BEACHSIDE STYLE, has always had beach sand in her pockets and a passion for the sea! A few years ago owner, Auralie, had the incredible experience of sailing the East Coast from Maine to Key West in a 38′ sailboat and from there on to many Bahamas islands and much of the Caribbean, almost to South America.

Auralie had a chance to absorb the sights, sounds, the islands’ memorable colors and the warmth of people.  She is now a landlubber again and creates pillows in a tropical and nautical style, which is her way of connecting with the colors and patterns from islands and seas loved and remembered. The beautiful batik fabrics used in BEACHSIDE STYLE pillows are some of our favorites...

If you appreciate the skill and care which goes into making a batik, here's a gem, hand printed in shades of blue and emerald green. This is a Bali cotton print in cool, restful colors. VIEW DETAILS
