The Joys of Paint ~ An Exterior Light

Ahhhh....the joys of paint. I've been an artist since high school so love to play with paint.  It's the most inexpensive way to completely change the look of just about anything.  This week I asked the hubby to take down the old brass light fixture outside our front door. After cleaning and lightly sanding it, I applied two coats of an exterior grade hunter green paint.  The front glass wouldn't come out so we just used masking tape to protect the glass while painting.

The ugly old light fixture being painted.

A light dry brushing of antique white paint, a spray of exterior gloss varnish and it looked sooooo much better!  Since we wanted a very soft and non-blinding light I spray painted the side glass panels lightly with white paint.  To add a decorative touch I used some scrapbook paper and glued it inside the front glass. The butterfly illuminates at night.

Once we re-paint the house's exterior it will look even better than against the current blue.  It cost about $1.00 for the paint, paper and varnish....not bad....and much cheaper than a totally new fixture.
