Table Setting...without Spending a Fortune

Summer is just around the corner and it's time to think about entertaining in style.  It is possible to set a beautiful table without spending a fortune or buying extra sets of fancy dishes or using the classic blue and white of beach decor. We recently had some weekend visitors so I dug into my closet to see what special things I could use to decorate the dinner table with.

I always keep a basket of various sized unscented candles in the closet plus I found a box of mixed seashells and a leaf-shaped tray (from Pier One) that would work great for a centerpiece.  Unscented candles are always best for table settings because they don't produce a scent that may interfere with the aromas of the wonderful meal you've prepared.

Lucky for me, my orange azaleas were blooming in the back yard so I cut three short stems and the flowers overflowed beautifully from my Vintage Glass Vase...they really were exquisite.  Look to your yard for items which you can use in your table settings ~ I've used tree branches, cuttings from various shrubs and other non-traditional items found in the garden.

Since we gave up using paper napkins several years ago I pulled out my summery fruit napkins.  They have oranges, lemons, leaves and blue script writing on them ~ the colors are fun and festive as well as matched the orange azaleas perfectly.  A bit of green raffia tied around each napkin and a seashell gently slipped in made them just a bit more special.  My simple white dinner plates from Ikea popped on the gold scroll-print tapestry that was used for a table cloth.

I'm a gift giver and love to provide visitors with something to remember their stay by. Since I had plenty of time to prepare, I grabbed some sand and seashells from the beach before their arrival. A recycled glass candle jar worked well for placing the sand and shells into as a keepsake.  A sand dollar glued on top; some jute around the neck and handmade hang tag made a personalized gift for my guests that they both loved.

Be unique the next time you have guests by seeing what you have hidden in your closets! There is no right or wrong when decorating for a coastal's all about what makes you happy and keeps you relaxed. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
