The Joy of Red

In the English language, the word red is associated with the color of certain flowers such as roses, ripe fruits, fire, sun and the sky at sunset. states that, "Red is the color of the life force. The color red invokes many psychological associations: courage, passion, love, excitement, danger, martyrdom, anger, fire, and strength. It is a lively color, and often recommended for areas of the home where entertaining is encouraged, such as the living room and dining room."

You know the saying, "less is more", this is a great rule of thumb when using red in decor. We've collected some of our favorite red items that will work nicely coordinated into your coastal hideaway.

Don’t be bashful―go ahead and mix stripes with patterns. Remember that reds will dominate and blues will recede, so be judicious when placing reds throughout your home. Use them as vibrant accents, and let blue tell the story.

This red kitchen beauty is on my ultimate wish list...The overachiever of the stand mixer family, it has a Flour Power Rating of 14 cups. That means it can mix enough dough for 8 loaves of bread or 13 dozen cookies in a single bowl. All you have to do is hope they're hungry!
Consider using your boldest hue on an accent wall. When you’re working with several shades, the brightest color will showcase the wall with the most-interesting features.

Country Living recommends this rum-spiked spiced Cherry Cola Cocktail which provides grown-up refreshment. For those who prefer a nonalcoholic beverage, this refreshing cocktail is equally delicious without the rum. Garnish it with a few fresh cherries and offer a cinnamon stick in place of a plastic swizzle stick.

1/2 cup(s) cola soft drink
1 1/2 tablespoon(s) Spiced Cherry Syrup
1 ounce(s) rum

Make the cocktail by filling an 8-ounce glass with crushed ice and add the cola, cherry syrup, and rum. Stir and serve immediately.
Don't forget to add a touch of red to each room by placing fresh cut blooms into glass jars and bottles...

And last, but certainly not least, how about incorporating red into your cottage's exterior? Red with the white trim and white picket fence is adorable and classic!
